Help Support CURSE OF THE PHANTOM SHADOW

CURSE OF THE PHANTOM SHADOW is a nifty film project which is a throwback homage to the serials and pulps of the 1940's. The film is over 75% completed but is need of completion funds and you can help out by donating a few bucks through the film's Kickstarter page and getting some cool rewards back in return.
By donating you help keep the pulp and serial genre alive and get some cool swag. It's win-win!

Synopsis snipped from the Kickstarter page:

There is only one man to call, Agent 236, an elite government agent. Agent 236 has been dispatched to launch a rescue.

Along the way, Agent 236 is befriended by a spunky, sarcastic, gas station attendant who just happens to have pinup girl good looks. She also just happens to be looking for a little action, and excitement. Luckily, Agent 236 is the man of her dreams. Agent 236 puts the station attendant and her tow truck into service in pursuit of the Phantom Shadow.

The SoHo art gallery, Animazing, is hosting a Art of Stop-Motion exhibit and sale of the films of Tim Burton and Henry Sellick. The exhibit will showcase props, storyboards, and conceptual art from films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and the more recent Coraline.

The event will start on Thursday and run until December 31st and is free and open to the public. The gallery is open seven days of the week. The gallery is located at 54 Greene Street on the corner of Broome in Soho. More information can be found at the Animazing website and the exhibit will go online at the site after 7PM on November 12th. Go here for more details.

MAKE LEMONADE

Here is a unique twist to a increasingly old tale of the artist versus the consumer. Instead of suing the people in the vid below or yanking it off Youtube, Chris Brown instead put up some ad content ads and a buy this song link. The end result was that the married couple got to keep their vid on Youtube with song intact and Chris Brown got a large paycheck from the increased sales from his song. More details here.

INSPIRATION: THE REAL PIRATE'S LIFE

Are you writing a pirate story and need some credible details, and you want to know what it's like to live like a pirate these days? When do you ask for a ransom and when it's best to kill the hostages?

All of that more can be found in this unique interview with a captured Somali pirate. Go here for the low down. (h/t to Boing Boing)

KICKSTARTER

UPDATE: Well, it seems that the site is currently under a Beta test with no word when you or I can participate. But hopefully soon we'll find out sooner or later. Also all payments are sent to your Amazon payments account so at this time you must be a U.S. Citizen with a Amazon membership.

For those, like myself, searching for a way to fund your next project should check out Kickstarter; a site for those seeking funding. At this point it's free to sign up and you have 25 days or so to raise the funding with the amount that you seek. If that goal is not met no one donates money and you're back to square one.

Nothing is expected in return for the donations made, however some artists are giving away bonus items for certain donated dollar amounts. For example if someone donates fifty dollars or more on a someone's film project then the filmmaker would send that person a finished DVD of the film for free as a way to say thanks.

I haven't tried it yet, but may do so in the next few days to raise completion money for my short film/music vid project.

Go here for the full details.

BUY A STORY FOR A DOLLAR

Even the homeless are getting into the pulp business and doing a better job than the most of us who just talk the talk. (h/t to Boing Boing)

WEEKEND READ: THE CROW 2037

Here is the Rob Zombie penned screenplay to a film that never came to be, THE CROW 2037.

What makes this script so interesting, besides being the first script written by Zombie, it is how the story unfolds. It's such a fevered dream of wild imagery and set pieces that make you wonder how it would have been pulled off.

I almost wish that he had permission to do a graphic novel version of this or a animated feature just to see this script come alive.

The script can be found here.
