THANK GOD FOR PIRATES
UPDATE: The word coming down the vine is that the morons that screwed up the US version of LET THE RIGHT ONE in are going to release a fixed version with the correct theatrical subtitles. But before you start doing your happy dance, you should know that anyone who already has purchased their copy won't be able exchange it for the for the fixed one. So even though you did the right and legal thing you are still getting screwed.
My advice; go to your local used DVD dealer and sell or trade the sucker before they wise up. That way you can grab another DVD from opposing company and you sorta win in the end. Full details here.
It's absolutely moronic boneheaded moves like this that makes film piracy even more tempting. After all, why should I pay good money for a foreign film that is either re-edited or dumbed down for "my benefit" when I can go off market and get the version that is not screwed with? And studios continually wonder why people prefer to get pirated films these days.
This is the sort of thing that gets my blood boiling. Thank god for regionless DVD players and bootleggers out there. Otherwise we would be continually forced to watch inferior copies of films for another decade or more. (via Icons of Fright)

STOCKS THAT YOU CAN TRUST
Tip of the hat to Bill over at Pulp 2.0 for discovering this nifty link.
As previously mentioned over at Lost in Schklock; Pond 5 seems to be the place to go these days for reasonably priced stock footage. Yet to make the site even more sweeter, Pond 5 is now giving away one free stock clip each week for anyone who signs up. It's all free with no strings so click here and go make that flick.
Some clips that you can be using for your next project:

THE CANAL OF TERROR
Yesterday was the first time I ever had a root canal as a adult while being fully conscious. I can now safely say that having a tooth pulled, in terms of pain, is a far better experience than having someone drill into your tooth and stick pins into it. Not fun at all.

ACKERMAN'S FINAL FAREWELL
Last week a memorial was held in honor of Forrest J. Ackerman who sadly passed away last year. After the memorial a video has been officially released with his final, albeit brief, words to his fans. More details can be found here. The vid is sad and bittersweet, but I gotta admit it's a bit creepy. (h/t to chud.com)

SURVIVAL HORROR
Started to crank out some notes and scribbles of set piece ideas for a flick that I would like to shoot either this summer or in the fall.
It's super cheap and the way it plays out is super awesome. The end project may even be chopped up into a serial with some alternate reality stuff thrown in to make it a bit more interactive. Nothing set in stone, really. I'm just allowing the noggin ramble on for a moment.
As per usual, I can't say much, but all I can say is that it's inspired by the survivalist shows out there on cable today-'nuff said!

THE FIVE-STEP FINALE
Mickey Spillane always worked on the ending of his novels before even starting the beginning. His reasoning was that the ending should always kick ass making both the beginning and middle of the story worth the effort of reading.Any story, no matter the genre, should always have that big pay-off. It's the reward given to a reader or audience member. Believe me, a bad ending can leave a bad taste in one's mouth and word spreads quicker than a wildfire around these parts of the internets. Have a kick ass ending, 'nuff said!
Blake Snyder has made a five step finale beat sheet that you and I should and need to follow. It's done in a way far better than I could ever come up with. Click here for the full details and fix that damn ending!
