Truly Dreadful Tales now at Salvage Video

I just found out yesterday that a mom and pop video rental store in Livingston, Texas called Salvage Video is renting out a few of Joe Sherlock's movies which he donated.  The cool thing is that one of the DVDs being rented out is Truly Dreadful Tales which features Crazed; the short film that I directed.

So, if you are in the area be sure to stop by Salvage Video and rent Truly Dreadful Tales or buy the movie and many more great schlocky flicks from F&C Productions.  We have to keep supporting indie horror movies and mom and pop video stores who help get indie films in front of pairs of eyes.

The Cycle Coach

Here is a very sweet piece of man made Frankenstein Monster green machinery that I saw parked outside of my local Walmart.  I am not even sure of this type of vehicle has a name, so I just call it the Cycle Coach.

The thing I dig the most about it was the fact that it was truly made by someone who took the time to engineer and hack the parts to make this beautiful thing work.  I want one so badly.  Mine would have skulls and bats, natch.

Summer Slaycation #11: Women Rastlin' and Lots of Blood

Last Sunday knocked out tons of scenes involving my wife and our friend Jennifer.  There was lots of Karo fake blood involved, a bit of rastlin' in the kitchen between the two gals, and poor Jennifer had to scream at the camera over seven times.  I even got a chance to field test my peel-and-stick blood, which turned decent enough for what it was.  It was a cool way to spend a Sunday.

 No filmming this weekend is planned because of the Labor Day.  But things should get back on track the following weekend.  I am a little over the half-way mark.  It is a bit depressing since I am having so much fun, I don't want it to end.  But that is part of the nature of making movies.  I got some personal scripts cooking up so I might jump back on the saddle sooner than expected.

Gonna have to think of a new title for these blog posts since Fall is creeping in.

National Lampoon's Summer Slaycation

So it looks like because of some financial and family issues I will not be attending a con at St, Louis this year.  This sucks double because I will be missing the Wicked Pixel premiere of RATLINE.

Also as many of you know a tornado decimated most of Joplin, Missouri.  So my friend, John Short, a citizen of the city, who I hired as my writer, is gonna be out of commission for quite some time.

Yet for very dark cloud there is a silver lining.  Joe Sherlock, who I consider one of my greatest pals, has hired me to direct a short film called CRAZED for his upcoming horror anthology TRULY DREADFUL TALES.  It's a gig that I could not pass up.  I have the script in my claws and it's solid horror through and through.  So for the rest of the month I will be shooting the short film.  I am super excited about this project.  It's a great opportunity.

At the moment I am recruiting actresses, building props, and doing script break downs, and with a bit of luck I will start shooting this weekend.

In the meantime here is a sneak peek at a make-up test I did with Photoshop.  For obvious reasons you won't get the full pic.  You gotta buy the DVD for the gore, son.

So I Got a Tattoo

For those who don't follow me on the usual channels of Facebook or Twitter; I got my very first tattoo.  The wife and I both got his and her tats of a zombie bride and groom.  Mine is on the left side of the pic below.

Ghost Freak Games Logo

Here is a logo I designed for a RPG company that I am a part of called Ghost Freak Games.  Currently we are working on a horror game that is inspired by all of those great b-movies one would find on VHS in some mom and pop video rental shop back in the day.

I think that over all the logo came out brilliantly.  I can't wait to show you the art from a upcoming game that I am working in though.

Completed a new digital drawing.  Not to shabby, really.  It was suppose to be for a horror RPG that I am a part of, but we're going a different direction.  Still, I wanted to share with you what I've been up to for these past few days.

 If you dig classic horror films, monsters, hardboiled detectives, serials, and pulps, then my friend this is the type of indie film that you will want to see.

CROPSEY

I don't know why but I truly and dearly love any film that is shot with that "Blair Witch" style POV. Maybe because to me it's like riding a dark ride at a state fair or walking through a haunted house attraction.

It just seems more spookier when you get that feeling that you are there with the filmmakers.  Case in point, here is a spooky film that I feel anyone should put on their must see list:

Realizing the urban legend of their youth has actually come true, two filmmakers delve into the mystery behind five missing children and the real-life boogeyman linked to their disappearance in their hometown of Staten Island, New York.

Growing up on Staten Island, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio had often heard the legend of ‘Cropsey.’ For the kids in their neighborhood, Cropsey was the escaped mental patient who lived in the old abandoned Willowbrook Mental Institution, who would come out late at night and snatch children off the streets. Sometimes Cropsey had a hook for a hand, other times he wielded a bloody axe, but it didn’t matter, Cropsey was always out there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to get them.

Later as teenagers, the filmmakers assumed Cropsey was just an urban legend: a cautionary tale used to keep them out of those abandoned buildings and stop them from doing all those things that teenagers like to do. That all changed in the summer of 1987 when a 13-year-old girl with Down syndrome, named Jennifer Schweiger, disappeared from their community.

That was the summer all the kids from Staten Island discovered that their urban legend was real.

Now as adults Joshua and Barbara have returned to Staten Island to create Cropsey, a feature documentary that delves into the mystery behind Jennifer and four additional missing children. The film also investigates Andre Rand, the real-life boogeyman linked to their disappearances.


Embarking on a mysterious journey into the underbelly of their forgotten borough, these filmmakers uncover a reality that is more terrifying than any urban legend.
