STILL EDITING EPISODE ONE

Some family stuff came up and as a consequence the editing on the script to episode one got placed on the backburner. The goal this week is to get that sucker trimmed and ready to shoot in October-fingers crossed.

The Witch script is looking good. I even dug up the old notes that I had one it. The one big difference between the original draft, and the new one, is that the cast of characters and their occupations are completely different. It would have been a group of college age kids or older adults going to a cabin for the weekend, but I might do something a bit more cooler than that.

I'll reveal more when I can for both scripts.

Anyway, tons of writing today so I gotta go for now. Until next time, stay weird!

THE LIFETIME CHANNEL

Lately, I have been sorta hooked on the Lifetime channel. I used to think that it was a, well you know, a channel for chicks. No offense, to any readers of the female persuasion. But I just assumed that is what it was.

After all, there seems to be a large proportion of flicks on that channel that either feature a woman being stalked by a crazed ex-boyfriend or a wife who is either abused by her husband and must somehow escape or the wife who is married to some crazed co-ed serial killer.

I can understand the point of it all, really. In a way it's like pulp for women. They are all formulaic and they have a genre niche to fulfill. There is truly a market for any genre out there.

Yet, the real reason I find myself going back to this channel and often letting my DVR record a few flicks from it, is that lately they have been airing some really groovy supernatural genre movies. I don't know if it's just a fluke run of those kind of films, but as long as they keep airing them, I'll keep watching.

These films may not win any awards or anything but they certainly follow a pulp style, that you have to love, and have supernatural elements including ghosts, of course. What is there not to like?

Now, why am I mentioning any of this? Well, this is aimed at anyone interested in screenwriting for films on both a low budget and for those that need to write within certain parameters that a studio or channel may enforce.

This brings me to this old post which anyone remotely interested in writing for TV or film in general should read. Check it out.

EDITING THE SCRIPT TO EPISODE ONE

I gave myself several days away from the script to episode one of the web serial. This is to allow a chance to look at again with refreshed eyes. Originally, I wanted to jump straight into writing writing the second episode, but thought it would be best if I did some editing of the first script before anything else. That way I save myself some headaches of having to restructure anything in script one and two.

Now after taking a breather I am going back to edit the first script. I printed it up yesterday and I am eager to take a look at it. Time to wear my butcher's smock and trim the fat.

Yesterday I dug out the Witch script that I tried working on last year. The goal is to try and focus on the first ten pages only. It's all baby steps. I'll clue you all in when I can about the project. However, I can say that I am basically starting at square one. Everything except for the opening has been removed.

Stay weird!
