UPDATE: 5-30-08

Man, who saw last night's episode of LOST? Those final few minutes just redeemed my love for the show. The pisser to the whole thing is that we have to wait till Janurary for our minds to get screwed with again. That is unless the impending actor's strike becomes a reality.

ON WRITING:

Besides obsessing over LOST I've been writing and brainstorming and getting something a bit more roughed out. Nothing solid enough for me to report yet-but almost.

A POSSIBLE MOVIE IDEA:

I've noticed that someone is remaking a certain flick and I won't name names, however I thought it funny to do a mockbuster of said movie, and I would get it out on the same day of the first movie's release. It would be crazy dirt cheap and god awful yet so damn fun to do. I am giggling inside out at the very thought.

NOT QUITE PIXAR:

I've been tinkering around with DAZ which is similar to POSER in someways. The downside is that the quality is not exactly breathtaking but if I need a CGI creature fast and cheap then that is one road I can travel.

The best part about DAZ is that it's free so that has it going for itself. Anything free that I can add to my Batbelt is gravy.

THE MUSIC VIDEO:

What of the music vid, you may be wondering? Well, it might come to pass after all. I'm not quite sure. The band I was going to do the vid for broke up and really there is not much to say or do after that. I'll just keep the props and move on. No hard feelings, really. To be honest I would rather move on and get some real movie stuff going.

Until next time, stay weird!

PODCASTS THAT I DIG

I recently splurged a bit again and bought the wife and I a couple of dirt cheap mp3 players. As a result I've been listening to tons of radio serials and a good assortment of resourceful podcasts that you should be listening to if you are at all interested in making a film.

Here is my own personal fave list (in no particular order):

CREATIVE SCREENWRITING MAGAZINE - listen to some fantastic Q&A sessions with some of the hottest screenwriters and occasionally get the real low-down of what went on during the script phase of some of mainstream flicks in theaters today.

GEEKERATI - a very cool podcast covering some of the current things happening on both the new media scene and pulp, and of course, all things geeky.

FXGUIDE - a excellent listen to anyone even half-way interested in how to do some top visual effects like the bigger studios.

ON THE PAGE - this is one the I've been really digging on. It has the most in way of useful screenwriting tips, techniques, and what to look for in your next script. If you listen to any screenwriting-centric podcast let this be the one.

UPDATE: 5-21-08

I'm back in business! I've tested all of my software programs with the aid of the new hard drive and all I can say is that I am one happy bastard. I can now do all of my editing and visual effects stuff.

Having this new sense of empowerment has made me start thinking of cheap movie ideas again and I think I finally have arrived at one that I can knock out a script for in a few weeks and film in the same amount of time. The best part is that it requires creature puppets!

500 GIGS OF PURE GROOVY!

Well I took a chance and bought a external hard drive yesterday and tried importing some footage directly into it and in the end I nearly teared up at what I saw. There were no stutters, no dropped frames, nothing to deter me from editing. So now I have no excuse not to make a flick or the music vid. Besides I'm a hundred bucks in the hole so I better make something dammit! Stay weird!

MONSTER MOVIE TRAILER

This made me smile when I saw this over the weekend. The dino puppet is what makes the awesome sauce. Dig it!

UPDATE: 5-13-08

The garage sale went great guns over the weekend. We made more than we expected, but our food bill went over so some of the money went to that. Yeah, higher food costs!

All in all, with that aside, it was not a total washout. We did manage to pick up a few things we needed and the wife had a decent mother's day. In the end it worked out for the better, I would have to say.

As for the movie projects. They are all moved to the backburners a bit. The same goes for writing. I just can't grasp enough time lately these past few weeks.

I did manage to find a old sketchbook of mine so expect some new drawings of mine to pop up here in the near future.

There is more to tell yet not enough time. I'll post here when I can. Till then, stay weird!

A GOOD SCARE

One of my joys of Youtube is watching those pranks where people get the beejezus scared out of them. This clip is one my all time faves. It's from a Japanese show and involves RINGU. I have to warn you though to turn the volume down a bit because once those gals get freaked out all hell breaks loose and well it's gets pretty damn loud.

YARD SALE

The wife has been wanting to have a yard sale so this Saturday that is what we plan on doing. The aim is to raise some cash to offset the cost of certain things such as dental bills, a new tag for the car, and some PC stuff. I'm not sure we'll make that much cash, but one can dream, can't they?

We've been cleaning out the garage and the house searching for items to part with and I even found some things that I might use for a internet garage sale of sorts. Stay glued to this same channel for details on that.

UPDATE: 5-7-08

A couple days ago I just had discovered some crushing news. I'm not receiving as much money as I had hoped from the stimulus rebate which means that be purchasing a new PC or a Mac is going to have to be put on hold. I'm rather both depressed and frustrated by the whole mess. I'm an idiot. I guess I should have had known better before I got my head in the clouds with the idea of a new PC.

So now I am just trying to tinker around with the PC I do have and see if I can get it to import some footage. I may have just enough to get a extra hard drive and hopefully that will help me a bit. The whole mess just sucks. I want to just grab camera and make something happen and I feel like I can't without the aid of editing on a NLE.

HELP A MONSTER MAKER GET A STAR

Hey schlockheads, it seems that there is a petition being passed around the campfire to try to raise awareness and to secure a Star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame for make-up artist Jack Pierce. A honor, which to me, seems long overdue. After all, this is a man who created Universal's Frankenstein's Monster and gave the Wolfman his look and the Mummy it's wrappings. The same man who worked with classic horror legends including; Boris Karloff, Claude Rains, Lon Chaney Jr, and Bela Lugosi to just name a few.

In truth, Universal would not still be standing if it was not for his make-up creations. It was his monsters that were on the posters, lobby cards, movie trailers, and assorted merchandise during the revival in the 50's. People came to theaters to see the Universal Monsters based solely on his creations. Let us not forget as well the make-up artists that were inspired by him. Without Jack Pierce there would be no Rick Baker, Tom Savini, and so forth.

Anyway, enough said. Sign the petition and help Jack Pierce get that star. (tip of the hat to AICN)
